Irrigation Guidelines

A Message from Chesterfield Utilities

Good afternoon,

We would appreciate you distributing the following message regarding irrigation schedules to your civic association/HOA board members.

Dear HOA Board,

Watering on the right day makes a big difference. Outdoor irrigation is one of the largest uses of water during the summer, which is why changing your watering schedule is one of the easiest ways to help conserve water.

As leaders in your neighborhoods, you have a direct line to our community. We also ask that you help us protect our local ecological features and share this notice through your community newsletter, email lists and social media groups.

Key Guidelines to Share with Residents:

  • Water lawns by address. Follow alternating irrigation schedule based on address.
  • Odd-numbered addresses: Water only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
  • Even-numbered addresses: Water only on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
  • No Monday watering. Refrain from any non-essential outdoor watering on Mondays.
  • Watch the clock. Only water lawns between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. on your assigned days.
  • Limit car washing and filling of pools.
  • Track your usage. Download the EyeOnWater app to view hourly water usage, detect hidden leaks and monitor their conservation progress in real time.

We hope HOAs like yours will do your part and lead by example by also following the watering schedule in your community spaces if you have them. Community spaces should follow the even numbered address schedule.

Why This Matters Now

Taking these proactive steps reduces the peak daily demand on our water supply, helps protect the James River, and preserves our reservoirs should the drought continue.

Thank you for your consideration, leadership and partnership.

Thank you,

Ashley Gibson
